Vitamin K3 (MSB) drying is a critical industrial process in the production of menadione sodium bisulfite, a stable, water-soluble form of vitamin K3 used in animal feed, pharmaceuticals, and cosmetics. Drying removes bound water or solvents after synthesis/crystallization, ensuring product stability, flowability, and shelf life.
Critical Quality Parameters
Moisture Content: Typically ≤1% (prevents caking & degradation).
Temperature: Strictly ≤50°C to avoid decomposition.
Oxygen Exposure: Minimized (N2 inerting recommended).
Particle Size: Controlled for consistent mixing in final products.
Drying Method:
Belt drying machine : The materials are uniformly distributed on the mesh belt by the material feeder. The mesh belt generally adopts 12-60 mesh stainless steel mesh and it is drawn by a transmission device and moved inside the dryer. The dryer is composed of several sections. For each section, the hot air is circulated separately. Part of the exhausted gas is exhausted by a special moisture exhaust blower. The waste gas is controlled by an adjustment valve. The hot air passes through the mesh belt covered with water material. The mesh belt moves slowly, running speed can be freely adjusted according to the material property. The final products after the drying process will fall into the material collector continuously.
Post-Drying Handling
Dried MSB must be:
Packaged in moisture-proof containers (e.g., laminated bags with desiccants).
Stored at 15–25°C in low-humidity environments.
Handled under inert gas (N2) to prevent oxidation.
Importance of Controlled Drying
Stability: Prevents hydrolysis/oxidation → extends shelf life.
Efficacy: Maintains vitamin potency in animal feed.
Safety: Avoids toxic decomposition byproducts (e.g., menadione epoxide).
Processability: Ensures free-flowing powder for blending.
