The largest chandelier of its kind in New England is being cleaned as the well-known wedding venue where it hangs prepares for business to further heat up as the pandemic winds down. At 18-feet wide and weighing over 3,500 pounds, the recognizable feature hangs over the staircase at Lombardo's in Randolph. It has more than 10,000 glass crystals and 950 light bulbs. "This chandelier has been the backdrop of hundreds of thousands of milestone events in people's lives," general manager David Lombardo said. Those events have helped to make the chandelier popular."Well, this chandelier is obviously very famous," Keith Campbell said. Campbell’s company, Acue-Bright, has been in charge of keeping the iconic lighting fixture looking good since the early 1970s. His team uses a process of water and soundwaves to clean and protect the 52-year-old beauty. "It's bombarding it with reverse osmosis, heated water that doesn’t use chemicals," he said. The last big project for the chandelier occurred in 2012 when it was rewired and converted to LED bulbs. Lombardo said the timing for this project is symbolic, suggesting the business can see the light at the end of a long tunnel through the pandemic. "It's been a really difficult two years for the event industry, and the cleaning of the chandelier is kind of reenergizing, reopening to what the year is going to bring," he said. After two days of work, the chandelier should be clean and ready to sparkle for another two years before the next cleaning.
